We know that a child’s first trip to the dentist is a major milestone for the whole family. At Paper Planes Pediatric Dentistry, our goal is to make sure that first experience is filled with wonder, comfort, and “first-class” care. Whether your baby just sprouted their first tooth or your toddler is ready for their very first cleaning, we’ve designed our Stewart Manor office to be a safe, playful environment where your child can feel like the pilot of their own health journey.
To ensure your child’s first visit is as stress-free as possible, we recommend a little “pre-flight” preparation. Having everything ready to go allows you to focus entirely on your child while we handle the rest. Please remember to bring :
To ensure a smooth departure, we will email or text your digital paperwork exactly one week before your scheduled visit. We strongly encourage you to complete these forms online in advance so our "ground crew" can have your child’s chart ready for takeoff the moment you arrive. If you prefer to fill out paper forms in the office, please plan to arrive 15 minutes early to ensure we can verify your information without delaying your child’s appointment.
A copy of your dental insurance card so we can help you maximize your benefits.
Plus any questions you have about teething, thumb-sucking, or nutrition.

If your child has a favorite stuffed animal or a small "co-pilot" toy, they are more than welcome to join them in the dental chair!
We follow a "Tell-Show-Do" approach to make sure nothing is a surprise. We’ll never rush your child; instead, we move at their pace to build a foundation of trust. Here is what your child's first "flight" typically looks like:
We’ll show your child around our Stewart Manor "hangar" so they can get used to the sights and sounds of the office.
Your child will meet Dr. Pae and our friendly team. We spend time chatting with them about their favorite things before looking at any teeth.
Depending on your child’s comfort level, we’ll do a "lap-to-lap" exam (for infants) or have them sit in the big chair. We count their teeth, check their gums, and look at their jaw growth.
If your child is ready, we’ll gently clean their teeth to show them how fun a "tooth tickle" can be!
The Post-Flight Debrief: We’ll sit down with you to discuss our findings, offer customized tips for home care, and answer every single one of your questions.
Here’s how we guide your child through their first appointment.
We’ll show your child around our office to help them feel at ease.
Your child meets Dr. Pae and our friendly team before we take a look.
We check their teeth, gums, and growth in a relaxed, easy-going manner.
If ready, we gently clean and polish their teeth to shine.
We review our findings and answer all your questions.
Tips For A Fearless First Visit
Here are some simple ways to help your child feel calm, confident, and ready for their appointment:
Use upbeat, positive language to describe the dental visit. Avoid using any words that might cause fear.
Play pretend dentist, read books about the dentist, and talk about the visit in a relaxed, fun manner.
Book a time when your child is typically well-rested, not during their nap time or mealtime.
Children pick up on your vibes, so try to keep a calm, encouraging tone and a relaxed demeanor.
Our office is designed to engage your child’s imagination from the moment they walk in.
We prioritize your child’s emotional comfort over “getting the job done” quickly.
We empower you with the knowledge to care for your child’s smile between visits.
We can’t wait to welcome your family to our practice and start this journey together. If you have any specific concerns or if your child has special needs we should be aware of, please let us know when booking!
