Non-Invasive Treatments

Launching a Healthy Smile Without the Drill

Modern pediatric dentistry is all about providing effective care while keeping your child comfortable and confident. Our non-invasive treatments are designed to stop cavities in their tracks and repair teeth without the need for traditional drilling or numbing shots. By utilizing “no-drill” technology, we create a positive, stress-free environment where your child can get the care they need without the anxiety often associated with dental work.

What is Minimally Invasive Pediatric Care?

Minimally invasive pediatric care focuses on treating children’s teeth in the most gentle and conservative way possible. For kids who feel uneasy about traditional dental tools or are sensitive to the sound of drills, this approach offers a far more comfortable alternative.

Instead of removing healthy tooth material, modern techniques are used to repair and protect teeth with precision. By prioritizing preservation, this method supports long-term dental health while reducing discomfort during treatment.

As a result, children experience a quieter, less stressful visit—making dental care not only effective but also far more reassuring and pain-free.

Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF)

Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) is a specialized liquid medication that stops active tooth decay from progressing further. During this quick procedure, the silver component acts as a powerful antimicrobial agent to eliminate the bacteria causing the cavity, while the fluoride works to remineralize and harden the remaining tooth structure. Because the application only requires a simple brush-on technique, there is no need for dental drills or numbing injections. This makes it a fantastic, stress-free way to treat cavities for young children or busy little adventurers, ensuring their experience is positive and their smile is ready for a smooth journey ahead.

Curodont™ Repair

Imagine if we could help a small cavity glide away before it even fully forms! Curodont™ is a non-invasive treatment used for early-stage spots that utilizes “Guided Enamel Regeneration.” It works by forming a microscopic structure inside the weakened area that attracts natural minerals from your child’s saliva, allowing the enamel to rebuild from the inside out. This provides a wonderful, effective way to stop early decay without the need for a dental drill, keeping the visit as light and easy as a paper plane! Best of all, unlike some other liquid treatments, Curodont™ is entirely clear. It will not stain the tooth or create dark spots, ensuring your child’s smile maintains its natural, white appearance throughout the healing process.

Hall Technique Crowns

When a back tooth requires more protection than a liquid treatment can provide, we utilize the Hall Technique. Unlike traditional crowns that require significant drilling and numbing, a Hall Crown is a specialized silver cap that is gently fitted over the tooth to seal in the decay and seal out food and bacteria. Scientific studies show that if a cavity has not already spread into the tooth’s nerve, the decay will stop progressing once it is effectively cut off from the sugars in a child’s diet. By covering the tooth with a stainless steel crown, we eliminate the cavity’s access to the sugar it needs to grow, allowing the internal part of the tooth to repair and heal itself. This provides the necessary durability for chewing while keeping the procedure quick, comfortable, and drill-free. Your child’s baby molar will stay healthy and strong until it is ready to fall out naturally, with no additional maintenance needed once it’s cleared for takeoff!

Laughing Gas

Nitrous Oxide for Kids

For children who feel a little turbulence before their treatment, we offer Nitrous Oxide—often called “Laughing Gas.” This safe, mild sedative helps your child feel calm and “giggly” within just three to five minutes of takeoff. Administered through a comfortable nosepiece, your child stays fully awake and responsive while Dr. Pae carefully monitors and adjusts the dosage to ensure a perfectly relaxed journey.

Once the procedure is complete, we provide a few minutes of pure oxygen to quickly flush out the nitrous oxide and bring your child back to a smooth landing. Because the effects wear off almost immediately, your little pilot won’t feel woozy or “spaced out” after their appointment. They’ll be ready to go about their day with a bright, happy smile. Help your child enjoy a stress-free flight; ask us about using laughing gas during their next visit!

Intravenous (IV) Sedation

For children facing severe dental anxiety or undergoing longer procedures, we offer IV Sedation—the deepest level of comfort available in a dental setting. Think of this as the “Overnight Flight”; it allows your child to rest in a deep state of relaxation while our expert crew performs their care. To ensure the highest safety standards, a dedicated dental anesthesiologist joins our fleet to monitor your child’s heart rate and blood pressure from takeoff to landing, while Dr. Pae focuses entirely on their healthy smile.

During this quiet journey, the medication is delivered directly into the bloodstream for immediate, controlled relaxation. Your child may fall into a gentle sleep and, most importantly, will have no memory of the procedure once they wake up. This is our most advanced option for ensuring that even the most challenging dental milestones feel like a blink of an eye, leaving your child refreshed and ready for their next adventure.

Sensory-Friendly & Special Needs Dental Care

Every child’s journey to a healthy smile follows a different flight path, and we are here to ensure yours is a smooth one. Our approach to inclusive care begins with Adaptive Dentistry, where we carefully adjust our environment to suit your child’s unique comfort level. From softening the noise of our equipment to dimming the lights or offering weighted blankets, we treat every visit like a custom-folded experience. We believe that by modifying our workspace to meet your child’s sensory needs, we can clear the clouds of anxiety and create a predictable, peaceful atmosphere.

We understand that the secret to a successful landing is all about pacing and communication. Our team is trained to adapt our “pre-flight” explanations and treatment speed to match your child’s specific physical, developmental, or behavioral requirements. By taking the time to listen to your family’s story and learning what helps your child feel most secure, we ensure that dental care is never a source of stress. Whether your child needs a “practice run” visit or a slower-paced appointment, we are committed to helping every family in our community take flight with confidence.

Expert Guidance

Dr. Pae and our “flight crew” will walk you through which non-invasive option is the best fit for your child’s specific needs.

Does SDF stain the tooth?

Yes, SDF will turn the decayed area of the tooth a dark silver or black color. While this is a permanent change to that spot, many parents find the trade-off worth it to avoid a stressful drilling procedure, especially on “baby” teeth that will eventually fall out. Plus, it’s a sign that it’s doing its job by halting the cavity!.

Not at all! It feels just like having your teeth brushed. It is a painless liquid application that requires no downtime.
To ensure a smooth landing for their new treatment, your child should avoid eating or drinking for 30 minutes after the application. Keeping their smile on course is easy: just continue brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and flossing after meals to keep those treated areas clean. Maintaining a great home routine is the best way to help the enamel rebuild and ensure the treatment stays on track!

Both options avoid the use of a drill, but they are used for different purposes. Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) is commonly applied to stop the progression of active tooth decay quickly, although it may leave a dark discoloration on the affected area.

Curodont™ Repair, on the other hand, is a clear liquid designed for treating very early-stage cavities. It works by supporting the tooth’s natural process to rebuild enamel from within.

The most suitable needle-free treatment will be recommended based on the position and severity of your child’s cavity.

A Hall Crown is designed to stay securely on the tooth until it naturally falls out to make room for the adult tooth, providing a durable and long-lasting shield for molars.

Yes, absolutely. Decades of clinical research has proven that a cavity simply cannot grow without its fuel source. Because the Hall Crowns creates a complete seal, it effectively cuts off the decay from the sugars and bacteria it needs to progress. This method does not harm the nerve or cause an abscess when the case is selected correctly. To ensure your child is ready for a smooth journey, Dr. Pae will take X-rays to confirm the decay hasn’t reached the nerve before recommending a Hall Crown as the best flight path for your child’s tooth.

Unfortunately, no. White zirconia crowns are made of a rigid ceramic that cannot flex to “snap” over a natural tooth. Using them requires significant drilling to ensure a proper fit. The Hall Technique relies on the unique flexibility of stainless steel to glide over the existing tooth structure and create a secure seal. This flexibility is what allows the process to stay as light and simple as a paper plane, protecting the tooth without the need for numbing or traditional drills.
Because a Hall Crown is gently fitted over the tooth without any drilling, it may feel a bit high at first. You might notice your child’s back teeth touching while their front teeth don’t quite meet. This is a normal part of the process. Children’s jaws are incredibly adaptable and will naturally adjust to the new crown. Within 2 to 4 weeks, the bite will settle into a comfortable, healthy position, making the transition as smooth as a paper plane finding its landing.
