Baby Tooth Extractions

Helping Your Child’s Smile Stay on Course

While our goal is always to save every tooth, sometimes a baby tooth needs to be removed to protect the rest of your child’s smile. Whether it’s due to a stubborn tooth that won’t fall out or a cavity that has progressed too far, we handle pediatric extractions with a gentle touch. Our focus is entirely on primary (baby) teeth, ensuring your child’s dental journey stays positive and comfortable as they prepare for their permanent teeth to arrive.

What is a Pediatric Tooth Extraction?

Think of a pediatric tooth extraction as clearing the runway for future growth. As a practice dedicated exclusively to children, we specialize in the unique anatomy of baby teeth. Removing a compromised baby tooth can prevent infection from reaching the developing adult tooth underneath. This “gentle glide” approach ensures that even when a tooth has to go, your child feels brave, supported, and ready for their next milestone.

Laughing Gas

Nitrous Oxide for Kids

For children who feel a little turbulence before their treatment, we offer Nitrous Oxide—often called “Laughing Gas.” This safe, mild sedative helps your child feel calm and “giggly” within just three to five minutes of takeoff. Administered through a comfortable nosepiece, your child stays fully awake and responsive while Dr. Pae carefully monitors and adjusts the dosage to ensure a perfectly relaxed journey.

Once the procedure is complete, we provide a few minutes of pure oxygen to quickly flush out the nitrous oxide and bring your child back to a smooth landing. Because the effects wear off almost immediately, your little pilot won’t feel woozy or “spaced out” after their appointment. They’ll be ready to go about their day with a bright, happy smile. Help your child enjoy a stress-free flight; ask us about using laughing gas during their next visit!

Intravenous (IV) Sedation

For children facing severe dental anxiety or undergoing longer procedures, we offer IV Sedation—the deepest level of comfort available in a dental setting. Think of this as the “Overnight Flight”; it allows your child to rest in a deep state of relaxation while our expert crew performs their care. To ensure the highest safety standards, a dedicated dental anesthesiologist joins our fleet to monitor your child’s heart rate and blood pressure from takeoff to landing, while Dr. Pae focuses entirely on their healthy smile.

During this quiet journey, the medication is delivered directly into the bloodstream for immediate, controlled relaxation. Your child may fall into a gentle sleep and, most importantly, will have no memory of the procedure once they wake up. This is our most advanced option for ensuring that even the most challenging dental milestones feel like a blink of an eye, leaving your child refreshed and ready for their next adventure.

Sensory-Friendly & Special Needs Dental Care

Every child’s journey to a healthy smile follows a different flight path, and we are here to ensure yours is a smooth one. Our approach to inclusive care begins with Adaptive Dentistry, where we carefully adjust our environment to suit your child’s unique comfort level. From softening the noise of our equipment to dimming the lights or offering weighted blankets, we treat every visit like a custom-folded experience. We believe that by modifying our workspace to meet your child’s sensory needs, we can clear the clouds of anxiety and create a predictable, peaceful atmosphere.

We understand that the secret to a successful landing is all about pacing and communication. Our team is trained to adapt our “pre-flight” explanations and treatment speed to match your child’s specific physical, developmental, or behavioral requirements. By taking the time to listen to your family’s story and learning what helps your child feel most secure, we ensure that dental care is never a source of stress. Whether your child needs a “practice run” visit or a slower-paced appointment, we are committed to helping every family in our community take flight with confidence.

Kid-Friendly Language

We speak “kid.” By explaining the extraction as “making room for a new arrival,” we keep the atmosphere positive and help your child feel like the hero of their own dental story.

Future-Focused

Every extraction we perform is done with the health of the future adult tooth in mind.

Do you extract adult (permanent) teeth?

As a pediatric practice, our focus is exclusively on the care and development of children and their primary (baby) teeth. While we do not perform extractions on permanent teeth, we are happy to provide a basic clinical assessment to evaluate the situation. If an extraction is necessary, we will act as your “Flight Scout” and provide a referral to a trusted specialist who handles permanent teeth, ensuring your child stays on the right course for their long-term dental health.

We prioritize your child’s comfort above all else. We use local numbing anesthetics to ensure your child is as comfortable as can be throughout the appointment. Our team is dedicated to being there for your child every step of the way, providing a supportive environment, gentle encouragement, and plenty of praise to help them feel brave. Our goal is to make the experience as smooth and stress-free as possible, ensuring your child feels cared for from takeoff to touchdown.

To ensure a smooth recovery, focus on soft foods like applesauce, yogurt, or mashed potatoes for the first few days. Most importantly, your child must avoid using straws for 1–2 weeks, as the suction can interfere with the healing process. We recommend no straws and sticking to gentle, easy-to-chew treats until the area is fully recovered.

Setting the Stage for a Healthy Smile

Each stage in your child’s dental development plays an important role in their long-term oral health. We’re here to ensure their baby teeth receive attentive, gentle care tailored to their needs.

Where healthy smiles take flight.
